Congratulations Muhammad Qasim Mahmood for winning the UPEI’s prestigious scholarship, “The 2024 Dr. J Regis Duffy Graduate Scholarships in Science”.
Mr. Mahmood is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Environmental Sciences program and pursuing research on water resources management in PEI.
Dr. Regis Duffy Award is granted to a graduating student who has demonstrated to an outstanding degree the qualities of scholarship and leadership within the university community. Candidates are selected based on academic records, professional and scholarly contributions, and demonstrated or potential ability in the area of study. Selections is based on the recommendations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and approved by the UPEI Awards and Scholarships Committee.
This award was created in honour of Dr. J. Regis Duffy. Regis Duffy’s roots run deep in the Island’s soil. He was born and raised on Earl and Annie Duffy’s farm in Kinkora, the eldest in a family of 12. After graduating from the local high school, he attended St. Dunstan’s University, one of UPEI’s predecessor institutions, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1953.
