The International Water Association Young Water Professionals Canada (IWA-YWP Canada) and partners, including the University of the Arctic, co-hosted the sixth annual conference of the global Network on Persistent, Emerging and Organic Pollution in the Environment (PEOPLE Network), which was also co-hosted by Memorial University and the Concordia Institute of Water, Energy, and Sustainable Systems of Concordia University. This year’s conference of the PEOPLE Network was held in Montreal at Concordia University.
The network hosted 42 technical sessions with 21 subjects and 210 talks from 20 different countries and disciplines. This included four plenary keynote speeches, a special lecture, fifteen technical keynote speeches, two workshops, more than 160 oral presentations, twenty poster presentations, and almost 300 attendees, both in person and online.
During the conference’s award ceremony, Dr. Xander Wang received the “Award for Excellence in Contribution” from the chair of the conference, Dr. Bing Chen.
Other Climate Smart Lab members, including Dr. Quan Dau, Dr. Pelin Kinay, Genny Keefe, Tianza Pang, and Ryan Guild, also presented their research, while others served as session chairs. Notably, Ryan Guild’s presentation on “the effects of climate change on the Piping Plover” won the “Third-Best Presentation” award at the conference.
